A Cloud 9 Spa Suite is the ultimate in both stateroom and spa accommodations. There's room for you and your things - with a large room and balcony - and a walk-in closet. The soothing in-room whirlpool tub will help you stay relaxed after your relaxing spa treatment. And like all suites, a Cloud 9 Spa Suite features VIP check-in, which lets you easily get right up to your amazing stateroom. Ocean Suites also include VIP check-in, walk-in closet and bathroom with whirlpool.

The pub also has live music that fits the Caribbean theme and a wide selection of island beers, frozen libations, and rum drinks. With the arrival of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, the Vista-class and Venezia-class ships (so similar that we have combined them into one entry) are no longer the biggest and most amenity-packed ships in the Carnival fleet. Still, they offer a lot of options when it comes to eateries, bars, lounges and deck-top attractions — more than you'll find on most other Carnival vessels. She also features the outdoor SportSquare, including the world's first ropes course at sea. Cucina del Capitano serves up Italian favorites fit for a captain, and RedFrog Pub introduces cruise passengers to Carnival's house brew, ThirstyFrog Red.

You can pretty much always rely on Carnival to provide you with plenteous entertainment over the course of your cruise, and that’s certainly the case when you’re aboard Carnival Magic. The design leaves a little to be desired, as it does harken back to that older era of cruising. However, if you don’t plan to spend all that much time in your cabin, you won’t really care at all. Carnival Magic was the second Dream-class vessel in the row of four, in 2011, and is the overall smallest ship among the class, though not by much. (The ship weighs in at only 4 GT less than Carnival Breeze.) Since the ship isn’t that old, it’s only received one dry docking phase, in 2016, which simply upgraded a few public areas. Even though Carnival Magic and Carnival Dream premiered in relatively quick succession, Carnival Magic has a few unique attributes that set it apart from Carnival Dream, including a SkyCourse ropes course that’s not on Carnival Dream.

Where does Carnival Magic sail from?

If you like beef, lamb, or lobster, you will love the Prime Steakhouse. Located aft on deck 5, this contemporary steakhouse has prime beef ranging from a 9-ounce filet to a 24-ounce porterhouse. The side orders are huge and delicious, with wasabi mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms table favorites.

All of the Conquest-class vessels hold just shy of 3,000 passengers at double occupancy — about 1,000 fewer passengers than the Vista-class ships. Still, you'll find a lot of the classic Carnival "fun ship" attractions on these vessels including water play areas with waterslides, miniature golf courses and adults-only Serenity deck-top retreat areas. Other than that, though, Carnival Splendor is basically a variation of the Conquest-class ships. Dream-class ships share some of the same amenities as Vista-class ships.

This review and photos are from the inaugural 9-day cruise from Venice to Barcelona. The 130,000-ton, 3,690-passenger Carnival Magic was launched in Venice in May 2011. Mainstream cruising sure has come a long way in size, as is seen in this picture comparing Carnival's first ship with the corporation's 100th. What doesn't show in the picture is how much the onboard experience and amenities have improved over the past 40 years. A cruise is the perfect time to treat yourself to something sweet, and Cherry On Top™ happens to be the perfect place.

Just about every public space has its own bar, from the lobby to the casino to the pool to the theater to the sports complex. There are also the two Guy Fieri-designed restaurants, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse and Guy’s Burger Joint. Both offer delicious — albeit a little sloppy — eats in relaxed atmospheres. For tacos, head to BlueIguana Cantina; pizza is served up at Pizzeria del Capitano; and hot dogs are up for grabs at the cart by the mini golf course. But you won’t find 20-plus restaurants helmed by world-class chefs and serving up gastronomic feasts for the eyes. The Grand Suite is the top pick, though, with its long terrace with seating, huge bathroom with a double vanity, large couch and seating area and even a desk.

You'll find a lot in common between the Vista class and Dream class, for instance. These two classes aren't all that different in feel from the earlier Splendor and Conquest classes of ships, though they are a bit bigger. Unlike Royal Caribbean and some other cruise lines, Carnival doesn't always drastically change the design of its ships from class to class. Each of these groups — known as "classes" in cruise industry lingo — is made up of ships that were constructed around the same time with the same basic design. The good news for those of you trying to get a handle on all the options within the Carnival fleet is that the line's ships can easily be bunched into just eight groups of vessels that have similar amenities.

Special Events

Also featured onboard are venues for sushi, Asian cuisine, hot dogs, tacos and burritos. Bite into a complimentary fresh hand-tossed pizza whenever you have the craving as they are offered 24/7. The 3690-passenger ship Carnival Magic was built in 2011 for USD 740 million. Magic features facilities similarly designed on the previous generations of line's ships while presenting some new features.

Circling the entire area is an eighth-mile jogging track with great views of the sea and all the people enjoying the SportSquare activities. A full bar with a large flat-screen display is available for those who just want to relax and check out the sports action in the area or on TV. The Carnival Magic features many favorite dining venues that past Carnival cruisers recognize. In addition, the cruise ship has two exciting new dining options that have quickly become guest favorites.

Still, you can expect to find many of the same fun-focused features on Spirit-class ships that you'll find on the line's bigger vessels, including water parks with waterslides and miniature golf courses. Dream-class ships have spirited piano bars, nightclubs, and the Ocean Plaza offering music for dancing and listening provided by musicians or a DJ. The Red Frog Pub on Carnival Magic and Carnival Breeze is a hot spot for music and pub games.

The Carnival Magic is a good fit for those who love big cruise ships and are looking for a fun and memorable cruise, filled with opportunities to socialize with other guests or with their own companions or family. It doesn't have as many alternative restaurants as many other newer ships do, but there's enough diversity of cuisine to satisfy anyone on a one- or two-week cruise. Carnival has kept many of its guests' favorite venues on the new Carnival Magic, but also added some new ones that are sure to please its thousands of mainstream North American guests. Although the ship is primarily marketed to North America, we had an international group of guests on our Mediterranean cruise, including about 600 Russians.

From weddings to parties, celebrate your special events at sea with Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival has brewed its first private-label draught beer especially for the Carnival Magic, called Thirsty Frog Red. As you might expect, Thirsty Frog Red is red in color and has a very slight fruity taste. Hang out doing stuff like watching movies, listening to music from this decade, playing sports and video games, joining karaoke jam sessions… maybe even attending Carnival’s version of prom, all with other high schoolers ages 15 to 17. All this and so much more will offer you a magical time on the Carnival Magic.

Parents of young children appreciate Carnival's Night Owls program on the Carnival Magic. This is an enhancement of the cruise line's babysitting service and is on all Carnival ships. The thousands of kids sailing on the Carnival Magic also appreciate the 19,000 square feet of space dedicated just to them. Camp Carnival caters to those 2-11; Circle C is for the 'tweens ages 12 to 14, and Club O2 is for the older teens ages 15 to 17. Each group has its own set of counselors, own space, and age-appropriate activities. Forward on the top deck is Serenity, the adults-only quiet area, with plenty of very comfortable chaise lounges, hammocks, barrel chairs, umbrellas, whirlpools, and a full-service bar.

They all seemed to be having a great time, and it's fun to interact with people from different cultures and countries on a cruise ship. Oh, you know, a little of this, a little of that… and really, a lot of fun. Basically, think of Ocean Plaza as an indoor entertainment spot that plays host to live music events, plus trivia, dance classes, games and more. And while all that’s going on, it never leaves you far from all the sunny, breezy goodness you get from the great outdoors of the sea.
